ELEMENTARY CLASSROOM PRESENTATIONS

A Message of Stewardship
Reaching children with a message of stewardship that they would embrace and share is the cornerstone of the Scituate Reservoir Watershed Education Program.

SRWEP staff annually presents our elementary classroom presentation to 3rd or 4th grade classrooms in Scituate, Foster, Glocester, and Western Johnston.

The 1 1/2 hour presentation includes a PowerPoint presentation, an interactive watershed model activity and a map activity. Take-home materials educate and engage parents, as well. Many years we have 100% participation from classroom teachers in the watershed. Upon completion of the presentation, students are asked to discuss how they can improve land use in the watershed to prevent pollution in the future. Classroom teachers are provided with suggested lesson plan extensions that are tied to both Rhode Island’s Grade Span Expectations for Science and the newly-adopted Next Generation Science Standards.
